Mike Van Hofwegen, Executive Director
Mike became Executive Director on February 1, 2009, after serving on a part-time interim basis for two months. He brings years of experience working with community and church organizations in Central America, Miami and Vancouver, British Columbia. Previous to taking the position as Executive Director, Mike was a volunteer at Monument Futures working with the Men’s Leadership Team since mid-2006 and a Board member since September 2007.


Pedro Freyre, Day Labor and Skills Training Director 
Pedro coordinates day-to-day operations and tracking of the Chavez Center’s Day Labor Program for men and women and civic integration workshops. He also assists in some administrative functions. Pedro is bilingual and bicultural in English and Spanish and was a dentist in Peru. He started working with the Chavez Center in 2005, and is highly regarded by our members.


David Thompson, Technology and Literacy Director
David manages the development and implementation of all computer and ESL classes. David is a teacher by training with international experience and a background in Developmental Economics. He is also therefore serving the Chavez Center in new program initiatives and economic development.


Maria LoValvo, Director of Cooperative Development

A small business consultant and also a former Board member of CCEDO, Maria joined our staff in February as Director of Cooperative Development. Maria has a wealth of experience and was a teacher of several of our Women’s Leadership Team members not long ago at the Women’s Initiative ALAS program.
